In this series, we are going to burn through each division in football and examine the most over-hyped, over-valued, over-owned piece of fantasy garbage to be found. We’ll look at former studs, presumed values, “up-and-comers” and I’ll tell you why each and every one of them is a firm fuck no for me and why they should be for you, too. Let’s take a quick look at the AFC North. A division that boasts maybe the most lopsided quarterback stables in the game. You’ve got two vets: a Super Bowl Champion, likely future HOFer, and rapist Big Ben mirrored by the perennial disappointment that is Andy Dalton. On the flip side of that coin, two youngs guns: record setting, rookie of the year, and Drew Brees clone Baker Mayfield standing tall across from Lamar Jackson who...well...he can run. In this article I will expend some 700 of my very own words trying to convince you that drafting Lamar Jackson would be a mistake akin to the time you raw dogged your roommates sloppy seconds in college and walked away with the itch crotch for a month. Don’t get me wrong, I love a quarterback that runs the ball, but I also love a quarterback that can throw. And that is something that Mr. Jackson just cannot do. I am saying a forceful “FUCK NO” to Lamar Jackson this season. Here are a few reasons you too should stay away. Reason 1: Rushing Lamar Jackson broke the single season for rushing attempts by a quarterback in 2018 while only starting in 7 games. Once taking over as the starter, he averaged 17 carries per game (and 14 completions). Michael Vick never carried the ball more than 15 times in a game. Only two quarterbacks other than Jackson have had 17 carries in a game since 1999, their names are Tim Tebow and Cam Newton. If Jackson were to average 17 carries over an entire NFL season he would end up with 272 carries. Now, you might be thinking FUCK YEAH, this all sounds amazing, he is going to terrorize the NFL in 2019. My first concern is that defensive coordinators are smart people. They are known to be very good at taking away the things players do best. I guarantee every coordinator and head coach will study film and learn schemes and packages that will take away the run and read option the best they can. Stacked box, better D-line bracketing, QB spies. It is doable, especially when the quarterback you’re trying to stop CAN’T PASS THE FUCKING BALL. When you don’t need to worry about the pass, loose zones without deep help feels like a pretty easy call. Secondly, the injury concern is real. No quarterback in the super bowl era has put their body in a position to take as many hits as Lamar Jackson. Defenders are bigger and faster than ever before. Even if the serious injuries are avoided, the constant wear and tear will absolutely impact his passing abilities in a negative manner. A run first quarterback has never found long term success in the super bowl era. I firmly believe that Lamar Jackson will not be the first to do just that. Reason 2: Passing Here are just a few of Lamar Jackson’s rookie year passing stats: I’d break these down but I think it’s enough to point out that with the best separating receiving core in the game, Jackson managed only a 58% completion rate. I mean, come on!
I just don’t believe in Lamar Jackson the passer, and by I don’t believe, I mean he isn’t. Defenses will take away Lamar Jackson the runner, or at least do their best to slow that part of his game down and they’ll do it complete abandon. It’s insane the early ADP Jackson is seeing. He’s going the QB 8. Lamar Jackson is a “Fuck No” for me at that draft price or any and he should he for you as well. Bullfrog
